ok, here is my system's specs:

2GHZ P4 Processor
256mb Radeon 9550 (video card)
768mb Ram

Now, i only get about 20~30 fps on average during the game, and i have a little extra cash. I was wondering if there is anything i should buy to get better fps. I'm not sure what i can do/buy to make it run smoother. I have like $60 to upgrade it. I dont have purchasing another system in mind so please dont suggest it. This is my personal computer that I built myself with my own money, and my parents refuse to upgrade it (despite the fact that they just put together a dual core computer for "business use") so im kinda stuck as to how i can upgrade it.

Any ideas (except for get a new computer) are welcomed and appreciated happy

FYI I have tried caseys config, it makes no difference.

ive done 2 things now, and my fps is about 40~50 . I had omega drivers and i changed the settings from quality to performace, and i close out firefox when i play (i always have like 20 tabs open) so i think im alright. I already ordered another 512mb stick of ram, so i will see how that goes toward my fps change.

can you give me a little more detailed specs about your rig? is it a custom built rig with a overclocking board? or is it a gateway or something because you might be able to overclock your video card a bit and add some fps depending on your cooling situation

im already overclocking my memory/core as we speak.
Stock Values:
250 Core
200 Memory

My Overclocked Values:
453 Core
234 Memory

Thats the highest it will go without artifacting.

My computer is 1000% custom built, i built it myself. My radeo has a stock fan on it with a heatsink, and even with me overclocking it it never gets too host, so its ok.

Checked out that page, thanks for the info happy

Yeah check your Temps and do a google search for your stable vid card temps and compare them..

maybe adding a couple $6dollar fans to your rig could help?

if firefox lags you, you def need more ram.

XP takes up alot, I think at least half your current ram. Make sure you dont upgrade to vista, and 1 gig should make your computing life 2x better

x2 and when playing CS try and close out of all programs as possible to keep your Ram open..

This might be a helpful program

Then ram's not the problem. A tiny bit better graphics card could make a big difference.

I'm a. lazy and b. at work but you might look into getting like an X800 XT PE or similar, im sure the prices have plummeted on those. Graphics card power is going to be the biggest bottle neck, going from 2.4ghz on my C2D to 3.7ghz is not a large jump in FPS unless we're in a crazy big gun fight in an open area where its kicking out a lot of physics, sound etc, there are VERY few maps where this happens.
